ISHPMIE - Symposium on Hazards, Prevention, and Mitigation of Industrial Explosions

The yearly meetings bring together researchers and engineers in the field of industrial explosion safety, including theoreticians, experimentalists, modellers, safety engineers and students, ranging from fundamental research to practical implementation of state-of-the-art technology for controlling the hazard posed by accidental explosions.


Series of meetings on Fuel-Air Explosions was started in Montreal, Canada in 1981 and on dust explosion in 1984 in Poland. The two meetings were organized in Norway during 1996 under the same name (ISHPMIE) and tradition continued. 


In 2016 meeting was held in China where a paper from Temet was presented

VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland

VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland is the biggest multitechnological applied research organisation in Northern Europe. VTT provides high-end technology solutions and innovation services. VTT is a non-profit research organization with 2,600 employees, of which over 80% have a university degree. It is a government agency, and has four subsidiary corporations: VTT Expert Services Oy, VTT Ventures Oy, VTT International Oy and VTT Memsfab Oy. 65% of funding is external (private), 35% is from the government and 21% international. VTT was founded in 1942 for scientific and public utility. 


Certification, testing, inspection and calibration services have been mostly accredited by the national accreditation body FINAS. ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certificates confirm the quality of the operating system.

Gexcon AS is a world-leading company in the field of safety and risk management and advanced dispersion, explosion and fire modelling. Gexcon’s experience arises from detailed knowledge of explosion phenomena built up throughout years of extensive research projects, carrying out safety assessments, performing accident investigations and performing physical testing at the company's own dedicated facilities on the Norwegian island of Sotra outside Bergen.

Aalto University, School of Chemical Technology

Aalto University, located in Helsinki in Finland, was established in 2010 as a merger of three major Finnish universities: the Helsinki University of Technology (established 1849), the Helsinki School of Economics (established 1904), and the University of Art and Design Helsinki (established 1871).
