TEMET equips new underground shelters for expanding metro network

The metro in the Helsinki metropolitan area will be extended to the west from Ruoholahti via Lauttasaari to Espoo in two phases. In the first phase, there will be eight new stations, and five more will be included in the second phase. The metro will operate on a rail line of 21 kilometers underground in two parallel tunnels.

The construction of the first phase of the west metro will be completed at the end of 2015, and operation will begin in the autumn of 2016. The entire line will be completed in 2020 at the earliest.

These new metro stations will be having a dual use function as they are designed serve as an underground shelters for civilians. Temet is the selected supplier of the protective equipment for many of these stations.
