Shelter modernization

Shelter modernization

Finland has a long tradition of building shelters in terraced houses, apartment buildings and industrial buildings. Having built shelters since the 1950s, Temet is a solid part of that tradition.

In our 70-year history, we have had time to complete a range of large reinforced concrete and rock shelter projects. Today, we have a unique level of insight and expertise across the entire product lifecycle, specializing in inspections, condition surveys, and rehabilitations of large reinforced concrete and rock shelters.

Shelters best protect lives when they are in top working condition, which means that they require modernization from time to time. We therefore recommend renovating ventilation systems in shelters in terraced houses and apartment buildings older than 30 years, as well as the shelters of small industrial buildings.

At Temet, we start the renovation and reconstruction of such shelters by repairing their wall structures and installing retrofittable soldered concrete penetrations that we have developed ourselves.

After the installing penetrations, we attach new type-tested and compliant equipment to them. We then equip the shields with modern nuclear, biological and chemical (NBC) filtration technology, IVL-1 ventilation equipment, and YV-1 relief valves.

If necessary, we also replace electrical wiring with new types of retrofit penetrations.

Using renovation to modernize civil shelters in old apartment buildings is a cost-effective way to ensure their functionality. We manufacture and supply building owners with renovation penetrations into which ventilation units can be easily installed in accordance with current ordinance. We also manufacture penetrations for all HVAC technology and they can be retrofitted into an existing wall construction.
